MTH 031 Foundations of Intermediate Algebra

This is a second course in algebra. Topics included are: solving first degree equations, inequalities and applications; graphing linear equations and inequalities; factoring algebraic expressions; working with rational expressions and solving equations containing rational expressions; simplifying complex fractions; solving systems of linear equations; working with variation; and performing basic manipulations of functions. Students who achieve at least one of the following will have demonstrated Intermediate Algebra Competency: successful completion of Module 12; or a grade of CD or higher in MTH 031; or a score of 82 or higher on the elementary algebra placement exam. Prerequisite: Introductory Algebra Competency; or a grade of C- or higher in High School Algebra I and in high school Geometry and Arithmetic Competency. MTH 031 may not be used to meet the General Education Mathematics competency, nor does it carry degree credit. Grade points earned in this course will NOT be included permanently in the cumulative GPA. Grade points earned in this course WILL be included permanently in the cumulative SPI.
