RDG 080 Fundamental of Reading Development

This competency-based course provides students with an understanding of their reading strengths and weaknesses. Emphasis is placed on fundamental reading skills: word-analysis, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension. Students practice these skills through group and individual instruction using newspapers, magazines, textbooks, and literature. After completing RDG 080 with a C - or better, students enroll in RDG 090. Only students who demonstrate competency on a college reading test may waive RDG 090. Credit cannot be applied toward a degree. Grade points earned in this course will be included permanently in the SPI. Two lecture hours and two laboratory hours per week.
